This month is when Earth Day happens, so it’s fun to think of all the ways to live sustainably. It may seem difficult, but there are some easy ways to do it. If you like to garden, then composting is just one of the options out there. Composting at home has so many benefits. The biggest one includes enriching the soil for your plants to thrive in. If you’re an avid gardener, this may just be the ticket for making your home landscape that much more lush and potentially yield more fruit.

Other benefits include introducing good stuff like bacteria and fungi. And, it puts kitchen waste to good use. If you’re wondering what you should and shouldn’t include in your compost, then Oregon State has a great page for reference to get you on your way. Now, there are also many choices out there for composting units. It can be as simple as digging a shallow pit away from the house and putting some chicken wire around it. Or, it can get more extensive like having a tumbler to compost. The Oregon Garden has a comprehensive demonstration area for composting, where you can see a lot of those choices first-hand. Of course, another added benefit to composting is that it decreases what goes in the landfill. And, that’s pretty awesome.
